What got me interested in my all-time Suns team was when a couple weeks ago on Sports Radio 98.7 FM in Phoenix Burns and Gambo, during their show, discussed who they thought were the greatest Suns players of all-time. Unfortunately I didn't take notes, but was upset neither of these gentlemen mentioned former Suns great Paul Westphal as one of the best Suns players ever. Uh, Westphal was a five-time NBA all-star and three-time All NBA First Team performer. Four of those all-star appearances and two of the All-NBA First Team honors were as a Phoenix Sun. I find it quite lacking when local radio sports talk show hosts, who do this for a living, don't even take the time to research Suns history. Leaving Westphal out of the conversation of best ever Suns players is grossly negligent. So, this past week local sports talk show hosts Dan Bickly and Vince Marotta brought up the same subject. This time I was ready, and took notes. Marotta had put together his all-time best Suns team, making it a 12 man roster. Again, neither host even mentioned Westphal in the conversation. Gentlemen, you are sports talk show hosts on Phoenix, AZ. At least take five or ten minutes to research who the best Suns players ever actually are, if you're going to discuss it on live radio. Here are the 12 players Marotta came up with as his best ever Suns players in no particular order, and Bickley blessed this list. They constructed it like an actual NBA roster, so they used a back-up at Center, and other positions as well, rather than just using the best raw 12 players ever to don a Suns uniform.

Two of my favorite all-time Suns are Dick Van Arsdale and Dan Majerle. I do have Van Arsdale, the Original Sun, rated above Majerle, though. So should the local talking media heads, but I haven't ever heard Van Arsdale even mentioned when those guys are putting together All-Time Suns teams. Both are three-time NBA all-stars. Van Arsdale was All-Defensive NBA second team once, While Majerler held that honor twice. Both had exemplary work ethics, and were hard-nosed players. But Van Arsdale was the better scorer hands down, having topped Majerle's best season ever of 17.3 points per game six times in his career. Van Arsdale had a stint coaching the Suns after he retired, and was a Suns executive as well.

Steve Nash will be inducted into the Suns Ring of Honor on October 30th, 2015. That will be the second game of the 2015-16 season, as the Suns will host the Portland Trailblazers.
